Mind your (Tech) Manners!
This is true. Sad but true. Recently, a wonderful agent I know lost a high end buyer due to lack of technical manners. This is a very experienced agent with generally excellent (live) communication…

Whether or not you know it, if you are in Real Estate — you own a very impressive hat collection. We are continually changing roles all day long.  This can be an energy drain if you are not aware of it. I once wrote an article on 101 things your Realtor does, and the list is quite incomplete. I think it is critical to be aware of how these mental gymnastics can wear us down unless we have good systems, education, support and boundaries. Especially in today’s economy- emotions and circumstances with clients are especially delicate. We truly need to manage our own stress levels to be ready for battle. Although the many hat’s we wear can come both naturally and even sub-consciously at times, we can benefit from being aware of how we can get in good mental, emotional and physical condition as we constantly change hats throughout the day. If you feel exasperated, perhaps just acknowledging the multi-faceted aspect of our business will bring some needed relief!

Here are a few tips to help my fellow hat collectors!

  • CLUSTER SIMILAR ACTIVITIES
  • DELEGATE WHAT YOU CAN
  • EVALUATE AND UPGRADE SYSTEMS WHEN NEEDED
  • USE THE TOOLS YOU HAVE
  • LET GO OF THINGS THAT ARE NOT WORKING
  • ASK WHAT HAS WORKED FOR OTHERS
  • TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF SO YOU HAVE GOOD ENERGY FOR THE TASKS AT HAND
  • CHOOSE PARTNERS AND AFFILIATES CAREFULLY

I hope that for the most part, you enjoy the many hats we wear as Realtors. I know I do! There are certainly some that come easier than others. Don’t be shy to lean on people who are better at something than you are.  Don’t be prideful to admit when you simply don’t have the right answer. Just stay connected to sources than can help you grow into those hats.

One last thing- my hat is off to all of you real estate professionals who have stayed the course and hung in there during these challenging times!
