LOS ANGELES –  A 96-year-old man was in police custody Sunday on suspicion of fatally bludgeoning his wife — but he may not even be aware of her death, due to his dementia, KTLA-TV reported.

Officers were called Saturday to the Los Angeles home Milton Weiss shared with wife Ann on a report of a suspicious death, and found the 81-year-old woman dead from an apparent head injury.

Neighbors and family members said Weiss had recently started to believe that his wife was stealing money from him.

“He was getting confused about things and would be angry about something that wasn’t real,” neighbor Sharon Queen-Ford told KTLA.

Weiss has not yet been charged.
